Posted May 18 2009,
I am Mike, Dick's oldest son. I'm sorry to say that Dick passed away early this morning. As many of you know, he has been fighting ALS for many years. He had a fairly rapid decline in the past couple weeks, but his ending was probably the best possible outcome we could have hoped for: at home in his sleep, in comfort with no pain, knowing his entire family was close by. His mind was as sharp as always, and he was able to communicate (unlike many ALS sufferers) fairly well even to the end.
My dad started getting symptoms of this disease about the time my mom Jean died (7 years ago), so he has definitely beat the odds both in longevity and maintaining functionality. He moved to Herndon in 2003 to be close to me, to make it convenient for my wife Chelle and me to help him out. My brother Russell and his three boys also live fairly close (in Alexandria), so we all get together regularly. In 2004, our cousin/Dick's niece Susan wanted to move to the CD area, so she moved in and has been an incredible help to my dad. Dick's youngest son John has been frequently coming up from Florida to visit. Dick's daughter Debbie and her family have also been able to visit on many occasions from Colorado. My dad loved seeing his 8 grandkids, and he's had plenty of occasions to spoil them these past few years.
We will be having a memorial service at the Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170, on Tuesday, May 19, at 10am. Memorial donations may be made to Capital Hospice, 209 Gibson St. NW, Suite 202, Leesburg, VA 20176 or the ALS Association - DC/MD/VA Chapter, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.
He will also be interred at Arlington Memorial Cemetery at some point (probably 3-4 months) with full military honors. Please contact me (youmans.mike@gmail.com) if you wish to be informed when this is scheduled.
Please pass this news on to anyone you can think of.

Dear Sirs,
I found a reference to Mr Hoffay in my father's address book. After much searching I found the NHVA web site. Unbeknownst to myself or my brothers, both of my parents are members (Walter C Kenyon and Kathryn B Kenyon). My father did not speak much of his Navy Helicopter experience, if you know anyone or anyplace that I can get information about my father's service, I would greatly appreciate it. He passed on this past Wednesday June 4, 2008 in CT. Thank you in advance for all your assistance.
