We think we have a great reunion in the works here and sincerely hope that we will see all of you in Jacksonville! Airport Shuttle
A shuttle from the airport to the hotel can be arranged by calling “Runways” at (800) 578-6929.
At 9:00 AM we board our coach and head for the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States, St. Augustine. We will take A1A down. Most people don't know that our beaches are on a barrier island. We will ride on the island road to St. Augustine. We will board the RED TRAIN to tour the city. There will be stops at the Fountain of Youth, Old Jail, Mission of Nombre de Dios (Shrine) where first Catholic mass was said, Castillo de San Marcos our nation’s oldest monument, and much much more of the “Oldest City”. We will also see Magnolia St., listed in the National Geographic as one of the most beautiful streets in America. You will have unlimited on-and-off privileges at more than 20 stops for shopping, attractions and restaurants. Your ticket is valid for up to three consecutive days, so if you want more to do on Saturday or Sunday it can still be used. Don’t forget to save time to visit the San Sebastian Winer DATE: Wednesday April 30th, thru Saturday May 3, 2008. We have arranged for reunion room rates to be extended to our members for 3 days prior to and 3 days after our reunion for those who may wish to arrive early or stay a little longer. We have scheduled a number of day trips during our stay in Jacksonville Beach and we are sure you will find them enjoyable. Our reunion itinerary & schedule is as follows: |
Mayport Base Tour We will board the motor coach at 10:45 for an 11:00 departure to visit Mayport Naval base. We will be having a box lunch at the base, followed by a special hand on session with the helicopter squadron. We hope to have enough time to visit the Base Exchange before returning to the hotel. Thursday, May 1, 2008 A true highlight to your day will be a trip to the Jacksonville Comedy Zone where you will be treated to a full buffet dinner followed by a gut splitting comedy show. The show is for ADULTS only, so be prepared to show an I.D. The show is from 8 pm to 10 pm. You will arrive back at the hotel about 11 pm. Notams Shipmates, Virginia (Ginny) Thornton beloved wife of the late Captain John Thornton, USN. (Ret). Ward Maxon, ADR1USN (Ret). George Gowen, PRC (Ret)), known to us affectionately "GR the PR." Allan Holmgren, Captain, USN (Ret). Ian F. Brown, Captain, USN (Retired).Captain Brown was in HU-2 in the early 50s, CO of HS-5 in early 60s and CAG 50 in mid 60s.
